ADVANCED AVIATION WEATHER SCHOOL - 2 DAY COURSE
Click here to return to the main Weather School page and for course dates
Those who attend Weather School rarely want to leave! The weather is such a fascinating topic that once revealed, pilots just don't want to stop learning.
This 2-day advanced aviation weather course allows you to become immersed in the world of flying weather for two days.
A maximum of three delegates are on the course at anyone time, and so the opportunities for interaction with both fellow students and your lecturer, Dr. Simon Keeling, are maximised to the full.
The objective of the courses is to go beyond the information given in the PPL syllabus and bring weather to life for all who fly. From the very beginning of the course we will be using real time weather information.
We will be applying what is forecast for the coming hours and days to what is actually happening outside. Using the Forns 214/215, METARs and TAFs as well as other forecast information we will be assessing how likely a forecast is to be correct and looking at the factors involved in producing such forecasts. We will apply our own knowledge and use computer models to make out own predictions.
GRIB data is assessed, upper air information explained, satellite pictures utilised as we refine our predictions. But it is not all computers; we'll be using our eyes too by observing the clouds and adjusting our forecasts.
This is the ideal opportunity to expand your weather knowledge and use it practically with the guidance of one of the countries most respected forecasters and weather trainers.
