3rd September 2009 The Society welcomed Sir Patrick Cormack MP, FSA as he opened the new Local History Room. Sir Patrick spoke warmly of the Room and the facilities it brings to Wombourne and the surrounding area. 28th November 2008 The Society was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Cllr. Peter Timms and extends its condolences to Peters wife, Carol. Peter was a stalwart supporter of the Society and gave money from the LIMS scheme, operated by Staffordshire County Council, securing our initial finances. Peter will be sorely missed, both as a Councillor and Supporter, but we will strive to maintain part of his legacy by the continued growth of the Wombourne Scientific Society. 1st November 2008 The Society received £450 from Cllr. Peter Timms through the LMIS scheme to purchase a PA system. A wireless microphone will also be purchased for use by speakers. 15th November 2007 We are very pleased to announce that Wombourne Parish Council have agreed to ‘provide funds in next years budget’ for the Local History Room. And, should we need anything in the meantime, we only have to ask! 1st November 2007 Cllr. Peter Timms agrees to give £500 from the Local members Initiative Scheme to get the Local History Room started. 20th September 2007 The Society is proud to announce the creation of the Wombourne Local History Room at Wombourne Library. See the History Room page for more details. 20th September 2007 Mr Ian Sadler has a greed to be Meeting s Secretary for the Society. Ian will be coordinating meetings, liasing with speakers and booking venues. 26th April 2007 Council have decided that we have outgrown the Wombourne Institute. With over 60 people attending we have had to find a new venue. From September 2008 the Society will meet at the Community Centre, Church Road, Wombourne. We will meet in the room at the rear, simply enter through the library entrance and then walk up the ramp to the right, into the rear room. 6th April 2007 DVD available of the meeting of 6th April “Are 4 Legs Better than 2?” by local vet, Alan Stevens. Members may borrow the DVD by contacting the Secretary. 29th March 2007 The date in Grapevine (Parish News) for the April meeting is incorrectly given as 12th April. Please advise anyone you know that the date of the meeting is 5th April! 8th March 2007 DVD Available of Introduction to Society For those who couldn’t attend a 30-minute DVD copy of the inaugural introduction to the Society is available. Please let us know if you would like to see the DVD. Unfortunately, the talk did not record, but this problem should be sorted next time! |
