>> Simon's Weather Musings << ClimateBalls in full swing ![]() Why let the facts get in the way? By Simon Keeling in Wombourne 20:00hrs 6/7/12 Temperature: 14.6C Weather: Cloudy Yes we have had heavy rain over the past 12-hours, and it is terrible that homes have once again been flooded. But we need to maintain a sense of perspective on this story. Of course it has been wet, but the rainfall totals from the past 12-hours show heavy rain rather than anything exceptional. What has happened is that the water table is now very high given the rainfall we have had since the end of April. That means that when rain falls it does not take much to flood. That does not help much to know that if you are flooded, but that's just the way these things work. This is NOT CLIMATE CHANGE. I have just heard a report on TV explaining that these events will get more frequent. Well, which is it that the pro-climate change lobby want; is it hot dry summers or warmer, wetter winters. They can't pick and choose, /'ooo today I'll take a wet day and claim it's global warming'/. This destroys any credibility and science that are involved in the subject. No, we just have to accept that we are living through a wet summer. Come a drier spell of weather in a few weeks and this will all be forgotten (as were the droughts earlier in the year). So let's leave the atmosphere to do what it does best; producing a marvellous spectacle of weather events for us to enjoy throughout the year, whether they be mundane or not we should just enjoy! >> Learning channel << Summer 2013 - Latest guidance ![]() |
